Ujjain: Mar Sebastian Vadakkel, the Bishop of Ujjain blessed Samarth Centre, a rehabilitation centre for children with intellectual disability on 22 April 2021 under the Covid-19 protocol and guidelines. The director Rev. Fr. Kurian Kochettonnil, the director of Madhya Pradesh Vikalang Sahayatha Samithi Rev. Fr. George Kachiramattam and Sisters from St. Martha's Congregations were present for the function.
This centre can accommodate a maximum of fifty children. This building is planned and made to comply with the Government guidelines for differently-abled children for a barrier-free environment to enable their free movements. There are separate accommodation facilities for girls and boys. The entire atmosphere is child-friendly.
Their mental, physical, spiritual, and intellectual growth is well attended. Even though there are 41 children on the roll due to the Covid Pandemic at present only 22 children are staying. Sisters of St. Martha's Congregation along with a few trained staff are rendering dedicated service for the children and for the daily running of the centre. The centre admits differently-abled children from the Eparchy of Ujjain and other parts of Madhya Pradesh. This centre was functioning in another building with limited facilities. The children now are shifted to the newly built centre with maximum facilities for their integrated growth and development. The newly built Samarth Centre is a Golden Jubilee memorial of the Eparchy of Ujjain. The foundation stone of the centre was blessed by His Beatitude Mar George Cardinal Alencherry, on 18 November 2018 during the concluding ceremony of the Golden Jubilee year of the Eparchy.
