Grand Finale of the Dei Verbum Bible Quiz in the Eparchy of Chicago
Chicago: St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Chicago conducted the Grand Finale of the Bible Quiz virtually on 29 May 2021. Approximately 5000 children and more than 1500 adults participated in the first-ever Eparchial Bible Quiz, Dei Verbum. The Eparchy was unable to organize the final on-site quiz program at the diocesan level because of the current pandemic situation. Hence, Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath declared all the finalists as winners that includes 40 participants of different age groups.
Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath inaugurated the Grand Finale and the program was live-streamed across the United States. Auxiliary Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt, provided a Keynote and facilitated the winners. Very Rev. Dr. George Danavelil, Director, Department of Faith Formation of the Eparchy welcomed everyone. Mr. Francis Thomas presented the report of the Dei Verbum Bible Quiz and Mr. Tison Thomas thanked everyone. Master Dylan Mathew and Mrs. Shirly Pathiyl shared their views and experiences. A trophy, cash award, and certificate were sent to all the winners.
The Bible Quiz was coordinated with 49 parishes and more than 30 missions across the United States. The Quiz was conducted at three levels (Parish, Zonal and Eparchial) for various age groups under the initiative of Eparchial Catechetical Department. The participants were given a choice to take either English or Malayalam version of the quiz at all three levels. The English Bible Quiz was based on The New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) whereas the Malayalam one was based on the POC Malayalam Bible. The category for the groups were: Sub-Junior (Grades 4 - 6), Junior (Grades 7- 8), Senior (Grades 9 -12), and Adult (Above 12th Grade; Youth and Adults). The books selected for the Bible Quiz were Gospel of Mark - Parish level and Zonal level (for all Groups); Gospel of Mark and Acts of the Apostles - Eparchial level (for all Groups).
