Covid-19 Response

Mumbai: Karunya Trust, the social action department of the Eparchy of Kalyan started its Covid-19 relief activities from the very beginning of the lockdown. In the initial stages, activities were distributing lunch packets to the people on roadside and under the bridges with the help of community kitchens in the parishes. Later, karunya team distributed the safety kits to police department. Another major activity was the distribution of the ration kits to Dharavi, Govandi and other slum pockets in the city. Trust’s ambulance service was given for the stranded people to move to a safer place. Online counselling facility was made available in English, Hindi, Marathi and in Malayalam languages. Promoted kitchen gardens at rural tribal villages of Thane district. Supported  students with computer tabs for their online studies as well as with education materials. Also distributed masks to various institutions and slums which are made by tribal as well as slum women whom the Karunya Team trained through the income generation and skill development programs. Considering the health and hygiene of the women Karunya team distributed sanitary items in different backward areas in the city. Team Karunya had the support of more than 200 volunteers in all relief activities.
